Concept

  1. Amazing! You do such a good job with shadows and shading, Ben! I love her battle-notched sword--adds a great deal of mood and detail. Her look of alert determination is good, too, and the whole outfit is riddled with detail! *****!
    Great job, chap!

  3. Dalu,
LOL, thanks! What I set out for, actually, was to draw a figure with lots of detail and realist-ish shading. I didn't get quite as much detail in as I would have liked (I was probably aiming for too much, being a beginner), but I'm glad it short of turned out! :P :D LOL

LOL, yeah, sorry about that! I meant to comment sooner, but I got the cold and that made it harder to navigate the web. However, I have totally nothing else to get in the way tonight! Thus, I shall head over to your blog right now. :D

  4. Ben,
Well, I think there was plenty of detail! I just noticed, too, the folds in her dress are fantastic--I wish I could achieve that in my drawings: I've never been able to lick that. :P

I'll be sure to see if I can spot Zelda the next time I might be in the electronics at Wal-Mart. Is the game for Nintendo DS, perhaps? Ye've got my interest perked. :P

Oh, no! You did? I'm sorry. :( Now I feel like a schmuck. I'm glad you're feeling better! The cold and flu season is thankfully going to be over soon. ;) :D

    1. Dalu,
Thanks! Fabric IS just a killer though! It's both smooth and sharply wrinkled in places. Usually I glance at a book illustration or a photo or someone sitting nearby to get the basic idea of what the pattern and shading will be for the folds in the fabric of the person I'm drawing. :D

LOL, is it for Nintendo DS? It's for all of Nintendo's system's ever! There are so many games they've made (the series has been around for 25 years) that they have at least one for every player they've created. There were two created for DS, neither of which I've played, but have read about, and they look pretty cool. :D Then they re-released one from the N64 on the 3DS, which I have played, but not on the 3DS. The newest they released is the Skyward Sword (which is where the Zelda I've been drawing is from), for Wii. I liked it so much the first time I played it, I restarted after beating it and am now working through it again. :D
Do you have a DS, then? :)

That's no problem! It's not like there was any way for you to know that before I told you. :P LOL In fact, apparently I'm not totally better; I was feeling a lot better yesterday, so I went to church to sing in the choir for the Ash Wednesday service. It tired me out so much that I got sick again today. :P LOL I'm feeling mostly better at the moment, anyway.
Precisely! Once this cold weather goes away and the plants start growing and the sun starts shining brightly, all the germs will die and I won't have a runny nose until next winter, hopefully. :D

      Thanks for commenting! ;D

  5. Nice again, Coyle. The shading IS well done, and the picture perks one's interest. You want to know the story behind it.

    Carry On!

  6. James,
    Thanks!
LOL, a woman with weapons... who knows what the story's about! XD Something about the fact that she's dressed traditionally clashes with the fact that she's wielding a modern-style pistol, too. :D LOL
