Leaves

It is February.
        The snow
               Melts
And the dry
       August leaves
              Blow
Aimlessly around
               Through the streets
                          and the grass.
   They wait
for the next of their
                     Kind
              To blossom
And take their place,
Never knowing
                When
             To give up.

  1. Yay! More Ben poetry! I love this one! It's very reflective and thought-provoking, like something to read on a cloudy day. Good meter, too! I love the design of the stanzas, which helps the reader not read so fast and think more. ;) I can't wait for more! ;)

  3. Dalu,

    LOL, thanks!
Precisely! I thought that if I cut it into little pieces people would see individual words, and pause when I wanted them too because of the spaces and such. :D I kinda got the idea from the psalms (and I guess a book on poetry). They put important words by themselves to give them strength; "Lord" is often separated from the others, as if to show its singular importance. :D

LOL! Definitely good to hear I've inspired you! :D I just checked by today, in fact, and saw that you HAD posted another poem! It was awesome! I'll comment as soon as I can—it's bedtime now so I can't say much more, LOL.

  4. Ben,

You know, I don't think I ever really noticed that about the Psalms before, as far as Lord. I always noticed it with "Selah", but come to think of it, it's been that, too, all the time! *face palm* That's definitely a good idea. Especially if the poem is shorter, breaking up the lines really forces the reader to not breeze over the words but think more deeply about them.
I'm glad you DID inspire me! :P Goody! I'd love your interpretation of what it might mean. That would help me know how ambiguous I was, and if I needed to be more vague or specific. ;) Can't wait for more of your poetry, chap! ;D
