In this picture, dedicated to Charles Dickens on his birthday, 2012, a late 1800's villain tips his hat to someone outside the picture, perhaps a prospective victim of his schemes. Permanent marker. Click to enlarge.
Beautiful, sir! The hand is a work of art, I must say! And you didn't leave out a thing about his clothing: scarf and waistcoat very prettily included, I think. Love the shadow effects, too--gives it a more "willainous" and mysterious aspect. I'd love to see more of your art!
Thank you, Dalu, for your prompt and complimentary response! I always appreciate comments, especially such approving ones. Yes, I probably will post some more drawings later on.
I also just realized that today is Charles Dickens' birthday, and my villain looks like he could be from a Dickens novel, and so I'm going to dedicate it to him. Happy Birthday Charles Dickens!
Marvelous, James! The detail and proportions on this figure are stunning! Somehow you got everything to fit together--and using marker, too! Did you make a pencil sketch first, or did you just go at it? :D Anyway, the way you added life to the ol' man (not aimed at his age) is spectacular! his cape and hair blowing in the wind, his cane, and his hand pushing up, or holding, his top-hat! :D
Yes, the shadow does totally finish it! It puts him into a world, gives a place where a light source can be imagined, and shows why he's got those cool contrasting shadows on his person! :D
And, wow... Now I know how to draw a profile view of a face! LOL, I've been drawing people for months trying to figure out how to do that, but now I see it's simple placement of the eye: I always try to put to eyes onto a face that's looking sideways, and, naturally, it doesn't quite work. :D Thanks for doing it right so that I could learn the secret!
Again, amazing level of detail! I hope to see more of your drawings!
Wow, thanks guys. I'm flattered. Your guys' comments are awfully nice--more than I deserve. I'll definitely do more drawing if you guys like them so much.
What fish, old boy? Maybe my attempt at shoes didn't quite work and you've mistaken them for fish. Understandable. Feet have never been my strong point. ;)
Hurrah! I'm hearing "I say" and "chap" and all that great British lingo! Hip, hip, HORRAY! Dickens's birthday?? Hurrah again! Your villain looks like a Dickens character, but I can't quite place him yet. It'll come to me, by and by. :P
Bootsie Wayne, The, "It's what I do that defines me" quote? That's a good one! Personally, I love all the training scenes at the beginning of the film with Ducard (however you spell it). I also love, "Why do we fall, sir? So that we can learn to pick ourselves up." :P
Bootsie, Ha! Well, I thought you knew I was! I have LOTS of British on both sides of my family. I myself haven't been to Britain yet, but that's my dream. While I'm there, I'll spin by your Irish relations and tell 'em ye said hi. :P LOL Yeah, Scare and I particularly like the beginning, since we're big fans of Liam Neeson's sword-fighting and acting. Go Qui-Gon! :P LOL XD

LOL, yeah, Happy Birthday Charles Dickens! (Though I guess I'm a little late, as he isn't alive anymore. :( Oh well. It's the thought that counts!)

ReplyDeleteNo no no! I love the feet! I'm talking about the fish Gadget at the bottom of the blog! Sorry, old chap!
ReplyDeleteOh, lol. I see. Yes I felt like adding that. You can remove it if you wish, laddie.
ReplyDeleteI vote that we should leave it!

Yes, lol. We like to pretend we're British I guess. ;)
DeleteOh, Ben and Bootsie, I just saw! Fellow fans of Batman Begins! And James, fellow fans of LOTR! :P LOL
ReplyDelete--Dalu--
Ah yes, I'm thinking of changing my last name to Wayne! :P
ReplyDeleteBootsie,
ReplyDeleteOh, really? LOL Good morning Mr Wayne! Say, what was your favourite part of the film? ;P
--Dalu--
Oh yes really! LOL. I'm thinking the part where he jumps off the building after saying his epic line. :) :P ;D
ReplyDeleteJames,
ReplyDeleteHa! Goody! As everyone knows, I love to be British because I am. :P LOL
--Dalu--
Dalu, your actually british?! :D Awesome.

Yeah. I love the whole film. Definitely cool at the beginning with the training though. :P :D :D
