Drawings 5

I started drawing this in Alchemy for the basic sketch of the face, and then I moved over to Adobe Photoshop CS5 to finish it. The top picture is what I ended with, the one directly below it is a previous version, and the lowest without color is the original sketch.

Drawings 4

Here are some of the drawings I've been doing this summer. :D Click "Read More" to see all of them.

I drew this while I was away from home on vacation, thinking of good-byes that aren't the last.

Let's Do It

Hey folks,

Take a moment an look at the view counter to your right. We're just about 100 views from 2,000! Let's get back to work and post some things again so that we can hit the big 2,000.

Dig into your portfolios and see if you can find some old stuff, just to get the views flowing again.

Music Library

Hi y'all, not that this is big news, but I have uploaded all of my music online for download, and you can find it here if you want to browse through the library of my musical works and download some.
Anyway, that's where you can go in the future if I upload any more music on YouTube or elsewhere; I should have everything I write there for download. Also, I may have forgotten a song in a lost folder on my computer somewhere or just on another harddrive, and if I discover any they will be added there as well.

      And bye now, C=
            -- Coyle McTroon

Salty Tears

I originally composed this when experimenting around on my piano—basically just discovering the raw melody then. Later I added a second part to it, and now, I've completed it with a beginning and ending, recording it with my MIDI piano and GarageBand 6.0.5. I used the default piano, and for the cello I downloaded an .sf2 file.

The links below will bring you to where you can download different versions of the song; version four is what was used for the video, and all the others are just prototypes before it was quite finished. They sound pretty much the same though, except that version one is shorter and that 2 and 3 are using a different piano font that 1 and 4. If you have any trouble with downloading, just leave a comment and I'll see how I can help.

A Hero's Death

Literally, just a hero's death. :D

"Wild William"

Here's a drawing a drew at Coyle's. He's supposed to be a crazy warrior. Sorry if the sword doesn't look right, it's supposed to be going out behind him.

The Quick & The Dead

In the style of the epic old GameBoy music (keeping in mind the original Mario and Link's Awakening as I wrote), I used a GameBoy SoundFont and had a lot of fun composing this short little tune!

Work in Progress

So here's the song I'm working on. It obviously isn't finished, and I may never finish it. Credit for the melody has to go to my sister, by the way.

Sweet Dreams

I discovered soundfonts a few weeks ago; they work much like letter fonts, only with sound. (Duh.) Anyway, there's a huge variety of them only from 8-bit videogame-style to symphonic epicness. The song below (click "read more" to listen) was not done with symphonic epicness, but with the 8-bit videogame-style. :) I titled it Sweet Dreams because for some reason that kind of music never fails to make me smile and/or laugh; there's something playful and energetic about it that gets me.
Though I didn't spend much time on it at all (probably five minutes) I was pleased with the way it turned out—as far as the sound of the piece goes, anyway.

Death of a Hummingbird

Here is a sort of melodramatic piano piece I wrote and recorded using Coyle's Garage Band program. Comments appreciated!

Apparently its impossible to understand what this is. I made it.

Clock Hands

This is an experimental song I wrote using GarageBand.
Sound effects, such as the clock ticking, I downloaded off either SoundSnap.com or Freesound.org, and the rest I created using synthesizers in GarageBand with the notation feature. The alarm clock sound at the end was recorded by me, and it's the very same noise that bothers me every morning (when I remember to turn it on).

Old Drawings

I rediscovered a few of my old sketchbooks and found these which I thought were worth posting. Sorry for the faded color, my scanner doesn't pick pencil up well. The first picture was drawn while looking at a painting.

The Boy of the Big Shoes, Chapter Four

“Insert what. Hrrrrrm.” He of the large shoes paced back on fourth. He had been thinking in front of that door some ten hours, and was starting to get bored. “Insert the key, of course.” Said someone behind him. He spun around on his heel to see who was talking. It was an old man, wearing a blue hat, a black coat, and neatly polished shoes. “What key, you of the blue hat, black coat, and neatly polished shoes?” The old man shrugged. “Oh, one that sort if is like this,” He pulled out a piece of paper, with a rough sketch of a somewhat bent piece of metal. “Had it in my workshop for years, I did.” He of the big shoes nodded, urging him on. “Till one day, not too long ago mind you, I found it gone. Snatched right of my table.” He of the blue hat, black coat, and neatly polished shoes scratched his head. “Actually I think you took it.” C.K.

The Boy of the Big Shoes, Chapter three

Chapter three The boy of the large shoes walked by the wall of the great castle, fingering his paper holder. It was a great castle indeed, with ten moats, one-hundred walls (or so they say, no one’s ever actually counted them), a kitchen one hundred meters long (no one’s measured this, since no one’s ever actually been in the castle), and the throne room of made of solid gold. Anyways, he was walking past the hundredth wall while he saw a gate in the castle wall, well more of a door, one would say. Anyways he stopped to examine this particular door. It was a small door, made of some sort of wood, very old by now. One could still see the intricate carving in the wood if one looked closely, which, by the way, was the royal crest. It also had a small gold handle, with one small red jewel hammered into the center of it. Below the handle was a small keyhole. Below the keyhole was written, “Ye who is bored, insert here above here.” --C.K.

The Boy of the Big Shoes, Chapter Two

Chapter two “Its just too... big.” The head metal maker said, with a hand on his hat, which, by the way, was one of the biggest ones in the town, and he was very proud of. “But, just see, its not quite all as big as that!” He of the big hat was already shaking his head. “No no, you can't read the page, you see. It may keep the pages together, but they aren’t readable, ye of the giant foot-covering. It would be too much metal to use anyway.” He waved his hand over the pieces of paper with a huge metal clamp holding all the pages in a grip of iron. The boy of the big shoes face lit up in a frown, balanced on one foot, and hopped out of the room, yelling happily, “Ah yes! So it is too big! Hee hee! Bye!” --C. K.

We're slacking off...

Have you guys noticed that we are steadily posting less and less?
February: 36 posts
March: 19 posts
April: 17 posts
May (so far): 3 posts

Yikes. We need to think of more things to post! Maybe we should have an on-going story on here or something. I don't know. Anything to get us posting more steadily. I just hate to think of the blog wasting away...not that it really matters. I'm just sort of rambling aren't I? I'll stop.

The Boy of the Big Shoes

Chapter one Once there was a land, where, at first there was perfect order. Then, with the invention of paper, disaster struck. At schools, all of the students would hand in their assignments nice and neat, and then would get all mixed up, with everyones papers. So in schools most everyone got an F on each thing they handed in. In parliament, when ever somebody submitted a bill, the same thing happened. They all got mixed up. Then one day a boy had an idea. An idea to stop the madness.

The rising sun

I watch the sun rising over the sea. It’s beautiful, one of the things I love in life. One thing that I like to wake up early for. I think it wakes up early to see me, too. Ah, I guess I must get back to life.

Drawing

From now on I'm going to title any drawings that I can't think of a name for "drawing", just for the record. Sometimes I get tired of having to think up names for everything, and therefore it becomes easier when I have some standard to go back to every time I get stuck. The b&w drawing is the original scan, and the rest are ones that I edited with Adobe Photoshop to add color. Since I couldn't decided just WHICH color to go with, I kept changing it, and therefore I ended up with four versions I liked about the same. View more than just the b&w version below by clicking the "read more" link, even though you'll be viewing more not actually reading more, as the button would have you believe.

The Wish of a Name (Part 1)

Once upon a time there lived an ugly boy without a name. Staying in the house of a rich uncle on weekends, he remained happy those days. But on weekdays he must return to his real house with his family. It was not an ugly family, and all of the associates thereof had names.
“Who ever said I wanted a story written about me?”
You don’t have a name so you can’t sue me for putting you in a book. Technically, I could be writing about someone else.

Caterpillar Space Mission

I Wrote this piece on my brother's birthday last year using Garage Bang. However, it isn't a Happy Birthday song or anything. :P There are two different versions that use less techno instruments, but the sound quality isn't as good.

Trees

Here is a drawing I did a couple weeks ago. I kept forgetting to post it and then our scanner wasn't working, otherwise I would have posted it sooner. Sorry it's a little fuzzy and light-colored, that's just the way it came through. It looks better if you enlarge it. Drawn with pen.

Music of Today

Composed this today on Garage Band, without the help of loops. Spent about an hour-and-a-half writing, then couldn't come up with any more. So, this is unfinished, and hopefully I'll add on to it eventually if I can ever think of a chorus or something to move it forwards a little. :D

Winding Winter March

I recorded this a long time ago, but since the song I'm trying to upload won't work unless it's on YouTube, here's this in the meantime. :D

I am a headache. I can stay for hours,
Sometimes days. But it doest really matter,
Cause your always in a haze.

The Oak

This is my (somewhat sentimental) poem that appeared on my personal blog a while back. It uses the same pattern as Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost--whatever that rhythm is called. At any rate, here it is. Hope it isn't too sappy.

An Oak once stood alone up here,
Upon this hill where we now stand.
Its roots were deep; its bows were long,
And cracks ran up and down its skin.

I used to sit below the bows;
The leaves would whisper happiness,
And as the night began to come,
Its bows would look like spider webs
Cut out against the fading sky.
And I would smile and fall asleep.

And then one day a great storm came
And blew the tree until it fell,
And as it fell I dreamed it said
“Do not fear nor grieve for me
For whence I came I’ll come again,
Another tree will stand up here.”

Now look down near your foot and see,
The young oak tree begins to grow.
And long from now the oak will stand
And you will sleep under its limbs.

Piano

The other night I was thinking of ways to record on my piano. I'd been having trouble with my microphone since all I had was my eleven-year-old iBook mic, and suddenly I wondered what the quality of my phone microphone was since I'd heard what recorded voices messages were like, also knowing that the phone had a built in sound check and edit which removed buzz and cut down loud sound.
Of course, phones don't just have a recording setting. However, as we all know, if you call someone and they're busy you can leave a message. So I called my gmail voice account, turned the phone on "speaker" so it would take in all the sound in the area, and started playing the piano. I just put my hands on the keys and followed any particular pattern of notes that came into my head, so there's true no tune, and since it's an improvisation I won't be able to play the song again in the future, but you can listen to it here from my google voice account.

Game Designing

Some of you may know that I used to do a lot of game designing, and though I don't do a lot anymore because the program I did it with kinda broke, I was able to finish one game and post it online. You can download it from here: Swim With The Fish
The controls for playing the game are as directed on the download page.

Enjoy! (Hopefully I programmed it right. :P Sorry about the poor looking graphics, too; I didn't really spend a lot of time on this game. LOL)

The Issue With Corners

Just around the corner there is something I cannot see—because it's around the corner. It's silent. All I can distinguish is the shadow, and it makes me more scared than I ever have been before. I don't know what shines the light. But I can tell that something blocks it. I'm not going to get up and look around.

Of March

March will march on
Until all ideas are gone.
At which point, I'm sure
The time will stay pure
and move into April.

Youth and Change

I am like a place in the wilderness.
Small plants may die and others may grow,
But there are still the rocks and the earth, which define me.
Finally, when the roots of the trees have claimed their soil,
And when the storm has done all it can,
I will have grown into something that few can change.
Until then, understand that I am still young.

Two Clocks

Two clocks tick together;
Never really knowing whether
They should ask about the people
Who ring the time from churches’ steeple.
They yell, they ding,
But still, the thing
That makes them ask
is why our face is but a mask.

Earth's Tunnel

You are not
the light at the
end of the
tunnel, You are
He who wakes
me from my
nightmare. I did not search for You, for I was not aware of your presents;
I was asleep and could not wake from that dream. And when I awoke,
You told me my task and commanded me to wake the others from their
dreams, which they
wish to hold
on to. I asked
You to give me
 a name so I
could tell them
who awoke them.
But You said
with a gentle voice
that I must wake
them in Your name.
That Name is the
most precious light
in the world.

A Short Lesson in Latin

Your footsteps wander, | and that’s Latin for “hello”.
My thoughts have pondered | words you’ll never know.

I Know

I see your eyes and wonder who else is watching;
perhaps a thought is seeing through you.
It is impossible to know
for the two globes look like your own,
but they’re such a deep brown
that anything could be hiding in the caverns behind;
I know I must have made you so cold
and now ask if there is anything I can do
 to make a change.
You know I would feed my heart
to the flames if it would warm you.

Legends of Last Summer

Tales of string and teapots colored orange
Pools of leaves and solid hair-dos
Rusted grates and tiny hammers
Flashing water and lots of bread
Red splotches and gray lawn chairs
Spilled cracked wafers of green potatoes
Bow-ties with eye-balls and Mario, too
Table crumbs and dying flies
College noodles and ringing bells
Five o’clock the thing that tells
Bitter tea and jelly knives
Flaky salt and mirrored face
Crumpled paper and reddened blinds
Tickled stream and dropping plastic
Woolen knitwear and hair spray
Clear handles and sharp spoons
Biking pixels and hot chocolate
Creamy coffee and cotton socks
Prince’s buttons and yummy stuff
Warm chocolate in clay glass
Eight hotdog buns in pickle juice
Swimming pool in green slime
Angry child in red van
Shiny shovel in old garden
Purple flower in empty field
Dark coal in train cars
Sour stumps in tumbling hills
Dragon clouds in toad pies
White water in tin bottles
Red brick in fifth flag
Refracted light in tinted glass
Cannon smoke in misty air
LEGO Sunday in sunny skyes
Furry feet in noodle pies
Eraser dust in 2-D planes
Sour apples in my mouth
Loud sound in black piano
Purple bands in stretchy leather

Painter's Hat

I am, myself,
         a painter’s hat;
I see the models he draws,
    but yet,
I am so high,
         lopsided on his head,
And I’ll never know
              why he paints in black.

Ugly Troll

Sorry about the weird shape to the left of his head in picture two; that was a glitch that I couldn't get rid of without sending the picture to another computer. So, I left it.
This whole drawing, starting from scratch, took close to half an hour, using Alchemy. :D

Logo Art

I made this logo a few years ago on Adobe Photoshop.

The Agony

This being lent, I've composed a few lines about the Agony in the Garden. Hope this isn't too serious for this blog.

The Agony

Alone He faced them all,
All the crimes of the world.
Beginning with the fall,
He saw all sins unfurled.

Bleeding bloody sweat,
Alone He knelt to weep.
He saw the price was set,
And the horror cut Him deep.

But upon His feet He rose.
"Not My will but Thine be done."
To the traitor's kiss He goes,
For man's salvation must be won.

Low Poly Character, With Textures!

So here it is! He has a textures! :D
      Enjoy! ;)

Architecture Sketches

I dug these out of a folder on my old computer, and though most of you have already seen them, here they are again. :) They pretty much explain themselves, except of course for the little mosquitos and the huge mountain of eyeballs in picture one and two. :P LOL, the eyeballs are houses, and the little flying things are people with wings catching the breeze. However, I'm not going to explain anymore because it's a long story. :D

Glorified Stick Figure

I started with a stick-figure to get the shape of the person right, and then just made them slightly less stick-like. :)

Low Poly Character

A simple low poly character that I'm working on, not much.

Starburst

10,000 particles going crazy in Blender. :D
      Hope you enjoy! ;)

Dusty Ol' Render

This is my first Blend, and probably the last for a while. :D
I actually made this along time ago, using Blender 2.5 Beta. Huh.

Dock Scene

Finally figured out how to texture a board. :D But yeah, hope you enjoy!

Okay so everything is really there and I actually modeled it, the waves and the mountains, the sky background is just a sky texture imported as a plane.

My older brother told me I should say all the stuff about the modeling and stuff, because he thought I just stuck the bridge on the ocean, hope that clears things up lol.

Some OLD Stuff.

Just some stuff that I made this summer that I thought I might post. :) Enjoy!
